| Transcript | CIBOTJ LA K/ OP SELECT COMMITTEE ON "ARMS AND TROPHIES, " (INCLUDING SPORTING MATERIALS, ) APPOINTED BY THE Executive Committee of the Mississippi Valley Sanitary Fair. St. Louis, March 7th, 1864 Sib: The Committee upon "Arms and Trophies" for the "Great Mississippi Valley Pair." which is to be held at St. Louis, Mo., commencing upon the 17th of May next, and the proceeds of which are to be given to the " Western Sanitary Commission, " desire that you will forward to their Chairman, General John B. Gray, Adjutant General of Missouri, at St. Louis, any trophies of, war which yon may have in your possession, and which you are willing to contribute to the Fair, to have sold to the highest bidder, for the benefit of our sick and wounded soldiers, or which you are willing- shall be exhibited only at the Fair, and do not feel justified in parting with. It is needless to here enter into any argument or explanation to convince you of the importance of the object which is contemplated by this Fair. •. The name and reputation of the Association under whose auspices it is to be created, and which is Jo receive its proceeds', is sufficient. Every dollar which is realized bytthe exhibition or sale of such articles as yon may send to it, will be judiciously expended for the'comfort ana" health of our Western soldiers. You are earnestly requested, therefore, to forward by express to St. Louis, on or before the first day of May next, all articles which you may now have, or which you can procure among the officers and soldiers "with whom you are associated, that are rendered interesting in consequence of having' been captured from the enemy, or which, from their unique style, may be considered curious and attractive. All articles which may be properly styled " Indian Curiosities, " and which have been captured from the Indians, as Avar instruments, may be considered as coming under this head, and will be gratefully received by the Committee. You will please designate plainly on each article sent whether it is to be sold, or whether it is simply for exhibition. All packages sent should be forwarded by the most convenient express, addressed to the Chairman of the Committee, at St. Louis, Mo. Very respectfully, your obedient servants, JOH1T B.
