Description
The Prosperity District was located six miles east of Joplin in Joplin township north of Duenweg , Missouri , and slightly southeast of Carterville (or due south of South Carterville , an area also known as Johnstown) . This print of Prosperity area mines , millponds and tailings piles is unidentified as to the specific mine company featured in the foreground but at least six mining operations are visible in this view . At this time there were at least two dozen mines in the area and the town had a population of about 1,500 . Today all that remains in Prosperity is a few homes and the old Prosperity School that operates as a bed and breakfast establishment .
