[September] 29th, 1918. Dr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, St. Louis, [Missouri] Dear Sir and Friend: - I have your letter of the 27th, inst. saying, you had just had a chat with Dr. Moore, internal revenue collector of that district, whose son was a roommate with my soldier boy Henry Whelpley Curtman Maupin and asking that I furnish you his address. I am very glad indeed to get the good report on him coming from one of his associates and former room-mate, son of Dr. Moore. He has always gone by the name of Curtman in school and at home, so when he went in the service of his country in order to get rid of the multiple name he took as his service name Curtman, hence he is known in the army only as Curtman Maupin. A letter should be addressed to him as follows; Lt. Curtman Maupin, Co. K. 356 Inf. 89th Division, American [Expeditionary] Forces, Via N.Y. A.P.O. 761. Glad to know that you are interested enough in him to write him at this time and am sure he will appreciate a letter from you. He has already been in the front line trenches and I am sure he is in the present drive, as a letter received by his wife from him yesterday, dated [September] 8th, said they were just leaving to take their places at the front again, and that before she received his letter she would read of some big doings by the Americans. With best wishes and kind regards to Mrs. Whelpley. I am, Very Truly, RE Maupin
