Description
The Augusta Free Hospital for Children of St . Louis , Mo . was incorporated in 1884 to care for children with orthopedic ailments . In 1890 the name of the institution was changed to the Martha Parsons Free Hospital , in recognition of the generous contributions of Charles Parsons to the endowment fund as a memorial to his wife . By 1910 , the hospital had outgrown its buildings at the southwest corner of Channing Avenue and School Street . Lacking the funds for building a new hospital , the Martha Parsons Free Hospital affiliated with the St . Louis Children's Hospital , which was already planning the construction of a new , modern hospital building .
