Description | Thomas Hindman and Theophilus Holmes exchanged a series of telegrams regarding engaging Federal Troops in Arkansas. They discussed the position and strength of Union troops in Helena, Arkansas, and James Blunt's isolated position in Northwest Arkansas. Hindman planned to quickly strike Blunt whose closest support was in Springfield, Missouri. Hindman planned to march his force on December 3, 1862 and attack Blunt on December 6, 1862. The actual Battle of Prairie Grove took place on December 7, 1862. |
