VOLUME I July, 1986 NUMBER 2 JULY 4 INDEPENDENCE DAY JULY 4... 1776 On this historic date, our forefathers pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor for the maintenance of their independence. In a time of peril and grave danger to ideals held dear, they struck a spark which has never died. In the midst of uncertainty and confusion, they molded a pattern that still fits today! JULY 4... 19 51 It is fitting today... when things we hold dear are threatened ... to remember the spirit in which our country was founded. Once again it is time to pledge " our livens, our fortunes, and our sacred honor" to main-tain the independence we celebrate today. While written thirty- five years ago, the message remains the same... HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA! Many small towns were originally established as railroad " tank" towns, built around the old steam engine water tank. One such town is located fifteen miles north of Dallas, Texas. Established in 1902 along the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway track, the community of 3,400 proudly carries the name Frisco, Texas. The Volume 51, Number 1, 1986 ( June issue) of the National Railway Historical Society Bulletin featured a cover photo of Frisco streamlined Pacific No. 1031. The museum currently has two photos of No. 1031 on display. One showing it in service at the Tulsa depot and the other showing it on its way to meet the scrap yard torch! Memberships in the NRHS are available. For more information contact Mr. Ed Heiss 2531 E. Cherokee, Springfield, MO 65804.
